Natural ADHD Treatment with play

Natural ADHD treatment with play ~ We sometimes get so busy as a parent ‘doing’ all those things that ‘need’ to be done, or we ’should’ do, that we forget to stop and play with our children. Children need to get outside in nature and play, it balances their energy, their brain, and their spirit (and ours too). Once they are balanced they can focus again. Here are some play ideas that I used with my kids:
  • When they arrived home from school I would have our afternoon tea packed and announce ‘we are going on an adventure’.  We would then head off into the bush to discover tracks, creeks and waterfalls.
  • Or we would hop on our bikes and discover a new part of our local area. We had so much fun, sliding down rocks into ponds, climbing trees, and discovering frogs.
  • When it rained I would bring out all the craft things and we would invite the next door neighbours in to model clay or make birthday cards.
I imagine that you often send your children out to play, to discover the back yard, play chasings, or build something in the sand pit.  But, when was the last time you joined them? Spending time with our children playing is so important to them and to us.
Often, when we do play with them, they open up and start to talk about all sorts of things that are happening in their life.  Play encourages our imagination and creativity to expand, and our spirit to soar.

May every day be a ‘play day’.

This is so true Karin. Even for older children/young adults it’s still so important to stop, listen and just play. My son is 21 and is just a big kid really and he needs me to give him some attention outside the normal everyday stuff that needs to get done.
This is a great reminder that regardless of age…they still need some play time with their parent.
