Do you know your child’s ‘Love Language’? Every child (like every adult) expresses and receives love best through one of five communication styles - Quality Time, Words of Affirmation, Gifts, Acts of Service and Physical Touch.
When you learn your child’s love language, you will discover how to express unconditional feelings of respect, affection and commitment that will resonate in their souls-and inspire them for the rest of their lives. Gary Chapman has written a fabulous book titled ‘The Five Love Languages of Children’ which helps you to understand your child’s love language and how to speak it to them.
Garry suggests using these strategies often to help you identify which is your child’s love language:
· Words—tell them all the things you love about them not just what they do.
· Touch—surprise them with hugs, hold their hand, cuddle them heaps.
· Acts— tidy their bedroom, make their favourite dinner, fix their bike.
· Time—set aside 1-2 hours just to spend with your child—walking, bike riding, throwing a ball, playing together.
· Gifts— leave surprises on their beds, find a feather and give it to them, buy a special something.
Gary’s book is full of information about each of the Love Languages, how to determine your child’s love language, and strategies you can use to communicate in their love language.
