Personal Care products to nurture you and your child

Many of the personal care products on the market have ingredients that your sensitive child could be reacting to. Some of them have ‘petroleum based’  ingredients including ‘Sodium Lauryl Sulphate’. Our family have found some fabulous organic / natural solutions for Personal Care. This is what we use:

Shampoos & Conditioners

Chemists, health food shops and sometimes supermarkets sell organic Shampoos and Conditioners. ‘Gaia’ is a great brand for children. And I personally love ‘Ni’. It is very reasonable, is available in many sizes and my hair loves it.

Room Freshener

Make your own room freshener. Go to your local health food store and ask to see the ‘essential oils’. Take some time finding the one you like. Now purchase a spray bottle, fill it with pure water, and add a few drops of the ‘essential oil’ you choose—now you have your own natural room freshener.

Bath Time

While you are at your health food store buy an ‘essential oil’ for your child.  Lavender is great for relaxing the body. Add a few drops at bath time.  Epsom salts are also good for alkalising your body and detoxing. Add a spoonful to your bath water and relax !

Soap

Your local health food store will have natural ‘Lemon Myrtle Soap’ we have been using it for years and love it. And it has all natural ingredients.

Deodorant

Your local health food store will have natural /organic deodorants. We have found the crystal sticks to be fabulous. They are not expensive and last for years (be careful not to drop them). The boys use the Miessence brand.

Toothpaste

We use 'Young Living Toothpastes' as they are anti viral, anti bacterial, completely natural, no sugar, aluminium or sodium lauryl sulphate and full of essential oils. Have a look at the ingredients panel of your toothpaste and compare.

Other Personal Care

Take some time to get to know what is in your personal care products, as often the ingredients could be causing sensitivities. There is a great little book you can purchase ’The Chemical Maze’ highlighting what is in what product. Click here to find out more.  Another useful thing to do is have a ‘Hair Sample’ allergy test. It tests you against 300 items, including personal care products, and is very accurate.  Click here to find out more.
