As a parent of a sensitive child it is likely that you are ‘very aware’ of what is happening with them—their symptoms and their experiences. Sometimes this ‘awareness’ can turn into stress and worry. It is almost as if the ‘awareness’ is stimulating worry, which is stimulating more ‘awareness’ which is stimulating more worry. This is creating a loop.
One of the best things you can do is to break this loop. You can do this by embracing the awareness and letting go of the worry. How do you do it ? Here are some ideas:
1. Get a piece of paper and write down all of the things that you are ‘aware’ of in relation to your child’s health and wellbeing. Try to group them if you can— possibly under emotional and physical symptoms.
2. Now with a different colour pen write down all of the things you are ‘worried’ about in relation to your child.
3. Once you are finished pause for a moment, let go of it all and centre yourself. Close your eyes breathe deeply, feel your body relax, feel your awareness moving away from your mind, and into your centre—your heart. Continue to breathe until you are completely relaxed.
4. From this centred place ask yourself—”What is the best thing I could do right now to support my child?” If you go back into your ‘worrying’ mind gently move your awareness back to your centre and breathe again.
5. Move your awareness around your centre and heart, looking for the answer. You may receive it in an image, words may drop into your head or you just get a feeling.
6. Sometimes the answer doesn’t come immediately. If this is the case for you, just relax and let it go ‘don’t worry’. From now on practice ‘being aware’ and ‘centred’. The answer may come through something someone says, a sign or your child.
7. When you are finished, take a little time to write down the answers you received. You could do this on the piece of paper with another coloured pen, or in a journal.
8. Your answer may be to give your child space to be themselves, spending time playing with your child, finding a wholistic health practitioner, buying a specific book or even something that you need to do for yourself.
9. Whatever it is if you have received an answer, remember to take action towards it. Even if it is a little step each day. As you take action you will find that the worrying starts to diminish. And you will be surprised by what turns up.
